The Bridal Expo 2012 at the Cocoanut Grove

Every year we look forward to the Cocoanut Grove Bridal Expo. It's a great way to start the year, see all our favorite local vendors, and touch base with a mass amount of engaged couples. We always try to come up with a fabulous design for our space, which can be tough to fit in an 8x8 booth. This year we got to try something new. We organized a "lounge" and all 7 businesses in our row took down their pipe and drape dividers and we showcased together. We had two amazing venues- The Dream Inn, and Bargetto Winery (who gave out samples of their wine), Just Cake (cake samples anyone?), Joop Ruben's Photography, Country Essences Floral, Santa Cruz Live Music and DJ, and of course Coastside Couture. Alexis Party Rentals provided the lounge furniture, where many overwhelmed Bride's took a moment of solace.

A June Private Estate Wedding in Carmel

Lauren and Vlad dreamed of a destination wedding in Carmel California, where their family and close friends could spend the weekend celebrating with them. The festivities began with a cliff top dinner complete with a rotisserie chicken food truck and amazing wine. Due to the summer coastal fog, the guests wrapped themselves in colorful blankets that greeted them at their seats. After dinner the fifty plus guests headed down to the beach for bonfires and smore's . The next day the couple were married at a private estate overlooking The Carmel Coastline. The sun shown for their ceremony and then the party was enveloped in a romantic coastal fog. Their cocktail reception included a wine tasting station and passed tapas.Their family style dinner followed on the stone patio, where their guests sat at two long tables topped with tall urns filled with blooming curly willow and white hydrangea. There were impromptu toasts throughout the dinner adding to the intimate feel of the evening. After dinner the couple danced the night away on the main deck, taking a small break to enjoy their wedding cake that was made by their good friend.

The Knot Magazine Holman Ranch Feature

We worked with the Bride's Mother along with the beautiful San Francisco couple on this July 2011 Holman Ranch wedding. The Mother of the Bride had many pieces of the wedding details chosen but was having a hard time bringing it all together and needed a professional planner to create an event that blended her vision and the couples vision. The result was a bright, cheerful, fun wedding with a goldfish theme (yes there was live goldfish there, many of which now belong to my children) that was a play on the Bride and Groom's last names. It was an amazing day put on by an amazing team of Monterey Bay Vendors.

The Team that made it happen included- Carlie Statsky (I adore working with this insanely talented women), Laughing Gal Floral (Amanda's floral is as bright and vivacious as she is), BigTime Video Services (Peri not only knows how to capture the moment, but is always the best team player), Edith Meyer Wedding Cakes (I love Edith and get the great pleasure of work with her often. I will say though this rustic layered cake was one of my all time favorites!), Holman Ranch ( I feel blessed every time I work at this heavenly hilltop ranch in Carmel Valley).

We hope you had a fantastic Holiday with your favorite people, yummy food and lots of belly laughs!
As many of you know I have an obession with succulents, they are easy to take care of, modern but soft and I love to use them for events as they are alive and last a long time (think plant part of your bouquet in your garden).

Recently I visited a store in Santa Cruz that made Style Me Pretty called DIG Gardens
Basically I spent about two hours looking at every nook and cranny of the store and outside in their patio area drooling, asking questions and almost dropping to my knees in worship of owners Cara Meyers and her husband Will. I actually heard myself saying "I want to live here" and "you guys are my idols" a few times.

DIG Gardens is not only the coolest store that encourages people to use design to create indoor gardens, they offer classes AND you can have an event there too! I just keep picturing an intimate spring wedding or a rehearsal dinner happening there.

Christmas is almost here and most likely you will be having some fun with friends and family in the next couple of weeks. We wanted to share some information about planning your holiday gatherings

~Keep your décor to a minimum, you don’t need to go all out to decorate for a holiday party, use simple but classic touches for example, if you are renting tables and linens, upgrade to a nicer more festive linen and cut out table décor altogether. It will be less expensive and easier to clean up.

~If you plan to do the food yourself, plan your menu and prepare the food in advanced. Don’t try to cook everything the day of the party, you have to be a host so planning a simple menu and having everything ready the day before will help you enjoy your party as well
~If you are providing a specialty cocktail try premixing in a large apothecary jar. You/your guests/the bar staff won’t have to be mixing individual drinks each time, freeing your guests up to mingle
~When choosing what beverages to provide keep in mind your menu. Your wine should complement the food. And don't forget non-alcoholic drinks!
~Many local caterers/restaurants offer drop off catered food. You can work with these caterers to create the menu you desire and have them simply drop your meal off. You will look like a pro and your guests don’t need to know you didn’t cook
~Remember the mood for the party, you don’t want to just have a radio station playing your background music. Make some different playlists and play them according to the mood of your guests, if it’s time to eat, use your “dinner” playlist and keep the music slow and low so guests can talk easily. After dinner bring the music up to a lively and festive tempo.
~Utilize great sites like Pandora to help create your ideal playlist, Pingg to invite your guests or update them on any changes in plans, and Evite for an excellent drink calculator. Sheknows.com has awesome recipes and drink ideas too!

Inspiration can come from many places, the trick is opening your eyes and your mind to it. The picture above was taken last Tuesday at sunrise from our deck at the Now Sapphire Resort just outside of Cancun. Karissa and I were there attending the most amazing conference Inspire Smart Success. This image was taken at a moment where I was fully realizing what the next few days were going to gift me. It was a truly goose bump, belly giggle, pure joy moment. The other thought was wow, what an amazing color combination! The clouds where the most amazing shades of peach and the clouds were so powdery blue! Where do you find inspiration? Is it right in front of you in your daily life instead of in a Bridal Magazine? I encourage you to open your eyes and your mind to what is right in front of you in your daily life.

On Sunday November 20th, we had the pleasure in participating in the Culinary Classique d'Elegance at Spanish Bay with our good friends, Anthony and Katelynn of Chic Event Rentals

The Culinary Classique d'Elegance is a super cool event benefiting Meals on Wheels More than twenty of the top Chefs from Monterey County are paired with designers to create dramatic table themes and menus. We were very lucky to be paired with talented Chef Josef Desimone the Director and "Culinary Overlord" of Facebook (link is just in case you have never heard of facebook)

Yesterday was Karissa's birthday and I was lucky enough to get to share it with her. We had a great time designing our table and attending the Culinary Classique d'Elegance at Spanish Bay on Sunday (will be blogging more about this!), and a lovely Wedding Planner Luncheon at the Clement Hotel yesterday. I couldn't ask for a better business partner, or friend. Happy Birthday little Miss Sunshine!

I was thrilled to see Katie and Leroy's Pie Ranch wedding featured on Style Me Pretty California! Pie Ranch is a working, learning farm on the coast north of Santa Cruz. The wedding was inspired by the Outstanding in a Field diners that are popular in our area. As most of you know we aren't huge fans of wedding favors here at Coastside Couture. So when we helped Megan and Drew plan their wedding at a private estate in Monterey we were happy to see that they were using freeze-dried pineapples and mangos as their gift to their guests!

The cool thing is that Megan's family owns Just Tomatoes so this was the perfect way to personalize their favors by using something her family works so hard at! I especially loved that Megan's mom designed the label.

Between the magazine websites like Brides.com and marthastewartweddings.com as well as Blogs such as www.stylemepretty.com, Greenweddingshoes.com and Styleunvieled.com it can be an overwhelming stream of images available to those planning their big day. Not to long ago I found an amazing new tool available to organize these images into inspiration categories. It's called Pinterest , and so many of us have become mad obsessed. I have been encouraging my brides to sign up so they can share images with me. So I encourage you, if you haven't already to go sign up, and while you are there checkout my Pinterest.

I am please to say we were featured on Ruffled Blog last week. This colorful wedding was very special to me as I worked very closely with the mother of the Bride (MOB) on getting all the plans finalized as well as the Bride on making sure her vision was exactly what she had in mind for her wedding day. We loved the fact that Cate (The Bride) embraced her admiration for bright colors and wanted her friends and family to feel comfortable and wear what they want, her Bridesmaids kicked butt on their choices of dresses!

The family was amazing, Cate's vision was colorful, warm, playful and right up my alley and we created an awesome wedding weekend full of food, fun and wonderful memories for a beautiful couple.

This one one of the most amazing moments of the night (and my picture doesn't do it justice) during the first dance, the guests are blowing bubbles and the little "sign holder boys" are dancing around Cate and Jon while they have their first dance, it was spectular!

Earlier this year Lia's Father Randy suffered two strokes during an operation to remove a tumor in his brain. Currently Randy is in a rehabilitation center, but hopefully will soon be home where his family will take care of him. The changes to their home and the 24/7 care that needs to happen is costly as you can imagine. Randy's brother David has organized a Fundraiser that will take place on October 15th at Hunter Hill Winery. Please take the time and checkout the invite. On Saturday (which was a busy day due to the date being 9/10/11) I had the pleasure of overseeing an amazing vendor team who helped create Maureen and Matt's Big Sur wedding. The result is shared below in my own pictures from behind the scenes. I felt a huge kinship with the Bride and her Family, who are much like my own. It was a beautiful, intimate event and hopefully one none of the guests will ever forget.

From the moment I met Yessenia and Rex, I knew their wedding would be an unforgettable event. They are an amazing couple who so deserved a special day. Yessenia has mad style, and a pretty huge Etsy obsession. She knew getting married outside was a must. Rex on the other hand wanted a traditional hotel wedding. In the end we were able to combine Yessenia's whimsical wine country vision and Rex's more formal ballroom feel. Continuing our accessories theme this week I wanted to share some warm up options for the Bride. Here in the Monterey Bay we have fog in the summer and often chilly evenings. Most of the wedding we plan are outside and even though we bring in heat for guest comfort I often encourage my clients to get some kind of shrug, wrap or sweater for when the chill hits them.
